A glimpse into my intimate horizons...

Burn Out Recovery
Friday, October 19, 2007
Are you on a burn out?
Those were the first words my doctor spoke when he saw me yesterday at the hospital. Took the words right out of my mouth.
It irritates me whenever I can't get good blood glucose numbers to the point where I stopped testing because I couldn't take the disappointment anymore. I don't know how better to describe the feeling.
Unfortunately, this burn out has its consequences.
You see, I had a tongsil infection and a gum infection at the same time over the past 4 days and the pain was rather unbearable. It throbbed as though it had a mini heartbeat and my throat reacted in disagreement every time I swallowed something. It got so bad that my jaw hurt whenever I yawned and kept me tossing and turning in my bed for 4 hours before finally being able to get some shut eye. When the pain decided to find new ground, it showcased its hammer-like abilities in my head and gums.
This is but a small effect of what it has had on me. The other effects include things like
1. Pimples that don't seem to heal
2. 2 week intensive antibiotic course, 112 tablets in total *faints at the thought
3. Additional $200 to financial expenditure
4. Enlarged liver
5. Ban on beer
The deteriorated control on my health has lowered my immunity, causing 2 infections to occur simultaneously and land me with 2 courses of antibiotics. Plus, a bigger than normal liver and a very annoyed mother who has banned me from alcohol until I get my health back on track.
And the remedy for a burnt out mental state?
Use an insulin pump that literally sticks to you 24/7. Effectively, it works as an artificial pancreas, releasing insulin periodically throughout the day. The one and only thing I'll need to do is to key in the units of insulin after every meal and I'm done. Yay! :) No jabs whatsoever. Thank God for technology!
So, if you're thinking of splashing me with water any time soon, please please please restrain yourself. This gizmo ain't water resistant.
Ironically, I'm actually excited about using it. I shall name it when I get it. Any ideas? :)
